RASSEGNA INTERNAZIONALE
DI COMPOSIZIONE "ALFEO GIGLI" |
Juan
Garcia Escudero (Hoyales, Burgos, Spagna 1958)
First
musical studies in COUL of
Cheste and
UL of Tarragona. After an autodidact period he continues
his formation in Conservatories of Cordoba, Teruel and Madrid where
he studied
composition mainly with Francisco Guerrero, who was of
decisive
importance. His music has been programmed in international
festivals and concert cycles in Europe and America. He has published
several works on the interactions of mathematics and music. Although
he used
recursive procedures based on fractals in works like Vuelo
(1988) for
harpsichord, techniques of discrete geometry and formal
grammars,
that he has developed in a different context, are guides of
the
formalization procedures since La Tierra Uberrima (1993) for
string
quartet. Harmonizations of aperiodic temporal sequences, which
are the
basis of the formal and rhythmic structures, play a major
role in
Imagenes (1995) for two pianos or Ad Matutinum (2001) for
mixed choir
. These methods have been extended to the timbric domain
in Estudio
del Tiempo Iluminado II (1997) for computer generated tape
and
Invertida Raiz (2000) for tape and nine instrumentalists where
instrumental
and temporal spectra interact. In his last works he is
exploring
the confluence of poetic and philosophic spaces (Valente,
Deleuze,...)
together with techniques of discrete geometry and
astronomy.
