Stephen Mark Barchan (Middlesbrough, Inghilterra 1982) Stephen Mark Barchan was born in Middlesbrough, 1982. He is currently a student at the University of Huddersfield, studying with Richard Steinitz. His music has been played throughout Europe and the USA. He is the composer-in-residence and conductor of the Catalyst Ensemble. He was a winner in the 4th Andrej Panufnik International Young Composers Competition. His wind quintet 'Out Of Control', inspired by 'Ode To A Nightingalè by John Keats, is to be premiered in Huddersfield in May by the Galliard Ensemble, to whom the piece is dedicated. He has had a series of premieres and world premieres given in concert at the University of Huddersfield. His music is heavily influenced by Stravinksy, Mark-Anthony Turnage and jazz music. He has a strong interest in poetry and paintings, particularly John Keats and Francis Bacon, and he often uses them as the inspiration behind.many of his pieces.
